Spartan Speech

For this upcoming word-association party game, I was commissioned to design the cover. The game, Spartan Speech, is about brevity. One player guesses a hidden proper noun while the others write the shortest, cleverest clue they can. The name comes from the Spartans’ love of saying more with less.

The cover is sculpted in the style of Greek red-figure pottery, with the idea that the painted figures had come to life and were playing the game themselves. Working from that concept, I moved through sketches and color mockups with the client to land on the composition and palette that fit their vision best.
