Oni Mask

2024 | 17 x 6 x 22 cm | mask | ceramics

In Japanese folklore, oni are horned demons, symbols of fear, chaos, and transition. Their masks are worn to frighten spirits, drive away bad luck, and mark the turning of the seasons.

This piece comes from that tradition, but shifts it into my own language. I often work with masks and identity, and I wanted try my hand at shaping one myself. Not to recreate an exact version, but to honor the devil like features and detailed painting.

Curious how it came together?

I often share process videos like this one over on Instagram, where you can watch the work slowly come to life.
